How to Help a Friend With Narcissism

Be their strength when addiction makes them powerless
“I find the best way to love someone is not to change them, but instead, help them reveal the greatest version of themselves.”
Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You: Reflections on Life and the Human Experience
It takes a lot of strength and struggle to support friends with challenges that may be hurtful to others. If you find your friend struggling with empathy, requiring a lot of attention and admiration from others and minimising the needs of others in a relationship, they may be showing traits of narcissism. This can eventually lead them to isolate themselves and have troubled relationships in the long run. Traits of narcissism can be challenging to deal with for the individual and the people close to them, especially with the constant negative portrayal of them. Today, gift a session to your friend to let them know that you’ll be there to hold their hand as they take their first steps towards healing.
We here at Heart It Out have professionals who know how to provide help according to your friend’s needs. We will help them identify the causes and triggers in their surroundings and motivate them to stay sober. Relapse is a part of recovery and we are here when they fall and learn to get back up again.
