A National study conducted by AIIMS-Delhi on prevalence of drug abuse in the country, establishes that alcohol is the most commonly used psychoactive substance followed by cannabis, opioid (heroin, opium) and inhalers. (2019). In recent times, drug use, abuse and addiction have been common words that have been used interchangeably. However, what is the reality behind each of these phenomena and what is the role that a mental health professional can play in the recovery process, are questions that are seldom answered or raised.
In this reflective two-day workshop, we will examine and understand the factors that reinforce addiction, how they appear, and exist in different forms. The workshop throws light on laws related to substance use, the role that a therapist can play, during the process of recovery with a focus on treatment methods.
